Hello Beloved, today’s blog post is brought to you by the letter “I”.
“I’ is for “Illegal” immigration or “Illegal” alien.
*warning this blog post will contain gratuitous amounts of Bible/Torah *
One of the more frustrating positions I’ve seen my fellow believers of Yeshua/Jesus take is anti-immigration. Or my personal favorite complete silence on the subject.
Let us open up our Torah or Old testament Bibles to the following:
Leviticus 19:33-34
When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as native-born. Love them as yourself, for your were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.
Zechariah 7:9-10
This is what the LORD Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.’
To be honest I could write several blog posts about the above scripture and about how the alleged “Christian” right is doing a HORRIFIC job, but today I’m just going to talk about “illegal” immigration.
Now for those of you who want to remain silent. You do realize that your savior was a brown illegal immigrant born in another nation illegally?
Saints, you are TOO quiet.
The church has a responsibility here to treat all people as human and give them respect.
Is it not oppression when you take children away from their families?
Is it not oppression when you refuse to give families an opportunity to go home?
Is it not oppression when children suffer physically, mental, and sexual abuse?
If we are to call ourselves a Judeo/Christian nation I can tell you right now we are not acting like it. We have set up our system to ensure immigration is as difficult as possible to BROWN PEOPLE. And we applies rules to certain people and not others.
I’m looking at you Justin Bieber.
But what about the rapists, the gangs, the *insert racist trope* ?
Guess what? We have a system for vetting immigrants. However, we are very harsh against black and brown immigrants and that is a problem.
And if you still want to act goofy and clutch your Bible and say you just don’t want “those people ruining your great nation….”
That’s right you played yourself because the Bible has a CURSE for anyone who mistreats immigrants. That’s right!
Check out Deuteronomy 27:19
Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow. Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
